John M. Donohue first envisioned the Schumpeter Consulting project as a result of his work experiences
among developing countries in Asia, Middle East and Central Europe, graduate studies in development banking and business
administration, followed by assignments at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
What emerged from this blend of diverse experience in developing countries and from working within
larger economic institutions -- too often inclined toward government interventions with too little attention to the historically
positive strength of the private sector -- was, in utter contrast, a personal passion for private enterprise, individual industry,
economic freedom -- what Lord Peter Bauer called, "a modernization of the mind...a personal provision for the future."
Schumpeter Consulting thus began in July 1997 as a teaching facility for entrepreneurs in Fairfax
County, Virginia. With his own business design curriculum and research materials, drawing on his diverse experiences in enterprise
development economics, Mr. Donohue lectured and advised aspiring new CEOs of small local start-ups, mandating that no client-student
would pass his course without writing and presenting a fully executable business plan for his or her own business. Schumpeter
Consulting's flagship education program, Fundamentals of Small Business Creation and Development, then as now, applies
to all types of small business start-ups across all business sectors. You can participate in the Fundamentals program
today through the Schumpeter Enterprise Institute.
